This class will take a look at so-called modern calligraphy, seen everywhere nowadays. Chances are you either love it or hate it. I hated it, till I decided that if I can’t beat them, join them. Medieval Manuscripts

Join us on Saturday, February 16 for a presentation on medieval manuscript page layouts with Sondra Venable, then use these techniques to create a page layout of your own. Sondra will have books on hand as well as work of her own.

Materials

A poem of 2-3 stanzas, or a quotation of similar length

A sheet of hot-press watercolor paper, 9″x12″, or 11″x14″

Graph paper or other practice paper

Black ink

Pen with broad nib, 1-2 millimeters wide

Red, blue, and white gouache

Gold ink or gouache

Small cups or palette for mixing gouache with water

Small, pointed brushes

Houston Calligraphy Guild Retreat

The Houston Calligraphy Guild is hosting a retreat on Saturday, February 16, 2019 to Sunday February 17, 2019 and one of our members is teaching a class!

Patti Adams will be teaching Color in Calligraphy. There will be other guild members from around the Southwest teaching classes including Folded Pen, Bernd Letters, and Watercolors.

September 15th (This is the 3rd Saturday, we are meeting this day because of conflicts but remainder of year will be the 2nd Saturday of the month.) 9am-12pm

Guild News

At the last guild meeting the members voted on and approved some changes to our meeting schedule.

We will now meet quarterly with our first meeting on September 8th.
